While I felt well prepared on the craft side and had put aside money to cover me for what I felt was a reasonable period, I hadn't actually prepared for running a business. Mainly, I had no idea about sales and marketing and being so focused on producing work, now that I had all day every day to devote to it, I didn't take any steps to change that. As a result, my random program for achieving sales brought in cash rather less slowly than it went out. Eventually I had to cut my losses and go back to employment.
